Clinical Snapshot

What patients should know first

Commonly discussed forSleep, vitality, body composition, recovery and restoration of “youthful” growth hormone.
What efficacy data showSermorelin can stimulate GH release, but current marketing claims for anti-aging, fat loss, muscle gain and longevity are not established by a current FDA-approved product and indication.
Approval boundaryHistorical marketing or physiologic activity does not make today’s compounded product FDA-approved or prove broad clinical outcomes.
Safety contextManipulating the GH–IGF-1 axis can affect glucose metabolism, edema, joint symptoms and other clinical risks. Product quality and peptide-related impurities add separate concerns when compounded.
Interpretation

Do not confuse a molecule with a verified medication

The name of an active ingredient does not verify the product in a vial. FDA approval, when it exists, applies to a specific product and indication. A compounded version is not FDA-approved, and a research-labeled product is not approved for human use.

Clinical supervision should include diagnosis, contraindication and interaction review, realistic outcome discussion, a valid prescription, traceable sourcing and follow-up. It cannot make an anonymous or counterfeit product safe.

Questions to ask

  • Is there an FDA-approved product for my exact condition?
  • What human outcome—not only biomarker—supports this use?
  • What are the important contraindications and stopping rules?
  • Which licensed pharmacy will dispense the prescription?
  • How will response and adverse effects be monitored?
