The short answer

What is Xeomin®?

Xeomin® is incobotulinumtoxinA, and it is the purified member of this group. Its manufacturing separates the active neurotoxin from the hemagglutinin and non-hemagglutinin proteins that accompany it in the other three products — which is why it is often described as the “naked” toxin. Its FDA cosmetic labeling covers moderate-to-severe upper facial lines: glabellar lines, forehead lines and lateral canthal lines in adults.

Concerns it may address

  • Frown lines between the brows — on the FDA label
  • Horizontal forehead lines — on the FDA label
  • Crow’s feet at the outer eye — on the FDA label
  • Patients who prefer a formulation without complexing proteins
Choosing between toxins

How Xeomin® differs from Botox®, Dysport and Jeuveau

Xeomin’s difference is in the vial rather than in the injection. It is the only one of the four supplied without the accessory proteins.

It is the only one without complexing proteins

The Xeomin® label describes separating the active ingredient from the hemagglutinin and non-hemagglutinin proteins through a series of purification steps. Botox® Cosmetic, Dysport® and Jeuveau® all include those accessory proteins. This is a genuine formulation difference, not a marketing distinction.

Its cosmetic label covers the whole upper face

Glabellar, forehead and lateral canthal lines all sit within Xeomin’s labeled cosmetic use in adults — broader than Dysport® or Jeuveau®, which are labeled for the glabella alone.

Its units are still its own

Purified or not, the same rule applies: Xeomin® units cannot be compared to or converted into units of any other botulinum toxin product. Switching to Xeomin® means a new dose plan, not a translated one.

Product selection is a clinical decision made with you at consultation. Nothing here is a recommendation for a specific product, and no toxin can be dosed from a web page.

Candidacy

Who may—or may not—be a candidate

Who may be considered

Adults who want the upper face treated — Xeomin®’s cosmetic labeling covers glabellar lines, forehead lines and lateral canthal lines in adults — and anyone who would rather have a formulation without the accessory proteins that accompany the other three. A good candidate understands that the result is temporary, that asymmetry is possible, and that the dose is built from their own anatomy rather than translated from a previous product.

When treatment may not be appropriate

Treatment may be deferred for pregnancy or breastfeeding, active infection at an injection site, known allergy to an ingredient, certain neuromuscular disorders, or symptoms that require medical evaluation. Tell the provider about all medications, supplements, prior toxin products and any swallowing or breathing problems.

What happens during treatment

Assess the upper face

Your provider reviews health history, prior toxin use and how your brow, forehead and outer eye move. All three areas sit within what Xeomin® is labeled for.

Plan a fresh dose

Xeomin® is the purified toxin, separated from its hemagglutinin and non-hemagglutinin proteins. Switching to it from another product means a new dose plan, not a converted one; its label is explicit that units are not comparable between products.

Treat and follow up

Small measured injections with a fine needle, then aftercare and a follow-up window. Movement settles over the first two weeks.

Informed choice

Important risks, limitations and alternatives

Risks & limitations

Expected effects can include temporary redness, tenderness, bruising, swelling or asymmetry. Every botulinum toxin product carries a boxed warning about distant spread of toxin effect: rare but serious risks include swallowing, speaking or breathing difficulty. Units of one product cannot be compared to or converted into units of another. Treatment cannot be guaranteed and must follow an individualized examination.

Alternatives to discuss

  • No treatment or skincare for surface-quality goals
  • Another FDA-approved botulinum toxin, recognizing units cannot be converted directly
  • Dermal filler or biostimulator when volume—not muscle movement—is the primary concern
  • Laser or resurfacing treatments for pigment, texture and fine etched lines
Clinical judgment

Why provider experience matters

Small differences in depth, angle, dose and muscle selection change the outcome. An experienced medical injector can distinguish dynamic lines from volume loss, protect brow and eyelid function, plan around asymmetry and recognize complications early.

Identity Aesthetics approach

  • Diagnosis and anatomy before a product or device
  • Conservative planning with candid limitations
  • Licensed-provider supervision and complication readiness
  • In-office and telehealth boundaries stated clearly
Access & cost

In-office versus telehealth

Treatment is in-office only. Telehealth can answer general questions, but facial examination, consent and injections occur at an Identity Aesthetics location.

Pricing: From $12 per unit. Final cost depends on the number of units selected after assessment. Always ask about current promotions and volume savings.

Common questions

Xeomin® FAQ

Will I look frozen?
The goal can be subtle softening with natural movement. Your desired finish, anatomy and dose are discussed before treatment; no injector can promise an exact appearance.
Can I switch toxin brands?
Sometimes, but each product has its own formulation and labeled dosing. Units are not interchangeable, so the provider plans a new dose rather than using a simple conversion.
When should I call the office?
Contact the practice promptly for concerning weakness, eyelid or brow changes, severe headache, vision changes or any unexpected symptom. Seek emergency care for trouble breathing, swallowing or speaking.
